Drugs Conundrum

Europe is one of the major markets for drugs, as is America.  Afghanistan is one of the primary producers.  The Taliban and their allies including Al Qaeda are the beneficiaries of the trade.  The USA and Europe have troops in Afghanistan who so far have not made much impact on the poppy production.  That is all a vicious circle; more drugs consumed more troops needed to curtail production.  Could we perhaps break the circle by tackling the consumption of drugs in the First World.  Cut off the market and the suppliers would be out of business.

Just a naive thought.
