Digital Natives and Immigrants

Ewan has linked to Martin Owen of Futurelab and his contention that Marc Prensky is oversimplifying when he divides the digital world into natives and immigrants.

What we as teachers should not lose sight of is that young people are exposed far more to visual information than previous generations and are used to extracting the information they need very quickly. This is not only true of computer games but such things as TV adverts. They are less at home with straight text. Our teaching methods should at least take account of this.
