Greek Tragedy Perhaps?

This Labour government appears to be exhibiting some of the same symptoms as heralded the end of the Tories in 1997. Michael Howard himself pointed out that yesterday's defence of Patricia Hewitt on Any Questions was not unreasonable and yet was met by derision from some parts of the audience and it reminded Michael of those earlier times.

Here are the elements of a Greek tragedy. Tony Blair hangs on to the last possible moment. Gordon Brown fails to win a general election within weeks of becoming Prime Minister and goes down in history as the shortest ever serving prime minister rather than one of the longest ever serving Chancellors of the Exchequer. Oh dear!
